President and CEO
A proven business leader and strategist, Mark A. Ascolese brings to Active Power a proven track record in positioning early stage, midsize, and large companies to deliver bottom line results in complex and rapidly changing environments. Mr. Ascolese is an electrical infrastructure and energy management expert with more than 40 years of experience serving a variety of mission critical and energy markets including the data center market.
Since 2006, Mr. Ascolese first served as CEO and most recently as board chairman of Power Analytics, an electrical infrastructure enterprise software firm based in San Diego, Calif., that serves global mission critical and energy management markets.
He led the team that created and implemented the company’s first strategic plan which has resulted in the firm gaining greater share in a multibillion dollar smart grid market. Under his leadership, Power Analytics also broadened its intellectual property portfolio, filing more than 150 global patents with more than 25 awarded to date, and secured key contracts and licensing agreements with marquee customers.
Prior to Power Analytics, Mr. Ascolese served in total more than 20 years in various leadership roles at Powerware, a global provider of power quality and backup power management products, which is now a part of Eaton Corp.
As president of Powerware from 2002 to 2004, Mr. Ascolese put in place a new management team, a new product development roadmap, and established the Powerware brand globally. The business grew substantially and was subsequently acquired by Eaton Corp. in 2004. Mr. Ascolese was retained by Eaton following the acquisition to oversee the integration of the company and lead all global sales and marketing efforts including the creation and implementation of the Power Chain Management™ initiative, helping establish the supplier as a leader in the mission critical enterprise space.
From 2000-2002, Mr. Ascolese served as senior vice president of Business Development at Active Power during the company’s initial public offering. In this role, he led the effort in securing multimillion dollar distribution and development agreements with key market players.
His career also includes 12 years at General Electric serving in a variety of management roles in the company’s service organization. While at GE, Mr. Ascolese gained a reputation as a turnaround specialist in the field operations organization and was part of the team that developed the first Quality of Service Management System, a benchmark now used in and outside service organizations.
Mr. Ascolese earned a bachelor’s of Science in Commerce from the University of Louisville.
Chief Financial Officer and Vice President, Finance
A certified public accountant, Jay Powers is an accomplished finance leader with broad and deep experience at both domestic and international organizations in a variety of industries including manufacturing, power quality, and energy storage. Powers brings more than 30 years of finance, accounting, and operations experience to Active Power with a proven record of protecting assets, implementing new processes that lead to operational improvements, and succeeding in fast paced, change driven environments.
Powers most recently served as senior vice president of Finance of the U.S. Windows and Doors division of PlyGem Industries, a $1.3 billion publicly traded building products manufacturer.
From 2006-2013, Powers was at Xerium Technologies, a publicly traded global manufacturer and supplier of specifically engineered consumable products used primarily in the production of paper. As vice president and global controller, he led all corporate controllership functions including SEC reporting, board reporting and analysis, and external audit management.
Prior to Xerium, Powers held a number of executive finance roles including vice president of Internal Audit at Invensys PLC, a global industrial automation, controls, and transportation business. He was tasked to step into this leadership role following the completion of two divestitures including Invensys’ Powerware and Lambda Power divisions where he served as vice president of Finance.
He spent more than 11 years in various senior finance and accounting roles at power and automation technology firm ABB, including six years with ABB Drives and Motors division. Powers began his career as a senior auditor at Ernst and Young LLP, formerly Arthur Young, working out of the firm’s offices in Stamford, Conn.
Powers received a bachelor’s of Science in Accounting from the State of University of New York at Albany.
|Randall J. Adleman|
Vice President, Global Sales and Marketing
RJ Adleman brings more than two decades of sales and marketing leadership to Active Power. He has an extensive track record building and growing championship caliber sales teams and designing and implementing multi-channel sales and marketing programs for several global organizations.
Prior to joining Active Power, Adleman served as vice president of Sales and Marketing for Valence Technology, an Austin based global manufacturer of large format energy storage solutions where revenues doubled during Adleman’s tenure since 2010.
Adleman has held various sales and marketing executive leadership roles including serving as senior vice president, Sales and Implementation Services, at Misys, an enterprise software provider, and vice president, Global Sales and Service, at Ingersoll Rand Energy Systems.
He also served as vice president, Secure Power Americas Group, at Invensys’ Powerware division, now part of Eaton Corp. While at Powerware, Adleman led all sales and service efforts for the U.S. commercial, federal, and Latin American businesses. In this role, he managed both direct and multi-tiered indirect channels of distribution including hundreds of manufacturing representatives, distributors, and resellers.
Adleman holds an undergraduate degree from Colgate University and a master’s in Business Administration with a concentration in Marketing from Fairleigh Dickinson University.
